Description arne anka 2016-07-13 11:49:37 UTC
after the timeout, the powersave the screen got blank, including the screen's LED switching to "no signal".
woke up the screen, after a while the screen started to get black again.
interrupted this, but now the screen stayed black -- cursor changed while moving according to the now invisible windows it crossed, but nothing else happened.
switched to console and back, which usually fixed those rendering issues, but that didn't help either.
finally i killed kwin_x11and was at least able to close my open applications and logout in an orderly fashion.

graphics adaptor:
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cedar [Radeon HD 5000/6000/7350/8350 Series] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
        Subsystem: Dell Radeon HD 6350

with :
xserver-xorg-video-radeon
Version: 1:7.7.0-1

Reproducible: Didn't try

Please try to suspend the compositor (SHIFT+Alt+F12) when this happens and also (just right now, no error condition required) attach the output of "qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation"

You are using xrender compositing. Is that wanted? Can you try whether using OpenGL works better?
Comment 4 arne anka 2016-07-22 19:05:41 UTC
xrender is just a remnant of the various attempts to minmize the constant plasmashell crashes.
since there's apparently no documentation whatsoever: what are the differences and why would OpenGL be better?
Comment 5 Alexander Mentyu 2018-04-09 13:39:44 UTC
Is the issue still actual for you?
Comment 6 kde.org 2021-11-06 20:34:23 UTC
User hasn't responded to request to confirm issue still exists.
