(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: kmail Version: 1.3.2 (using KDE 2.2.2 -1) Severity: normal Installed from: Red Hat Linux 7.2 Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-98) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.9-13enterprise OS/Compiler notes: When I try to sort my mail by the sender e-mail address it sorts by the descriptive name not the e-mail address. That would be fine if it would sort by e-mail address when the descriptive name is the same. i.e. Micah Gersten <micah@davka.com> Micah Gersten <webmaster@davka.com> is sorted by Micah Gersten and not by the e-mail address. On other helpful piece of information is that I have about 40000 messages that I am trying to sort. Would that have any effect on the sorting capability. Thank you Micah Gersten (Submitted via bugs.kde.org) (Called from KBugReport dialog)

An address in a style like "webmaster@davka.com (Micah Gersten)" would then be sorted under "w" which is surely not good. Besides that sorting currently uses only the information also displayed in the headers pane. Everything else would cause a heavy performance problem. Regards Michael Häckel

Currently if you for example sort first by date and then by sender you get the mails with the same sender sorted by date but I assume that is not what you want. Why do you wan't to have a difference between that at all? If you want to separate the mails you can use a filter rule and sort them into different folders. Regards Michael Häckel

The text in parantheses is just a comment. Broken Mailers=20 use this syntax where they should use the display-name i.e.: Micah Gersten <webmaster@davka.com> We should probably convert these addresses the first time we hit them=20 and make sure they never make it into the address completion or other=20 user-visible texts in the first place. Marc - --=20 Since 1997 [the US] is the only country known to have executed inmates who have committed crimes while under age 18. Five states -- Iran Pakistan Nigeria Yemen and Saudi Arabia -- gave up killing children more than a decade ago. -- John Horvath: "High-level Hypocrisy" Telepolis 2001/12/13 (#11298) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE8K1RA3oWD+L2/6DgRAtglAKC1env04KV2AJ1eHex/P3GmkZAbewCgibhM nJXA4mySB7JfJUy8lW/h5lw=3D =3DMcGH -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

I do bulk-mailings to my company's customer base and receive a large amount of bounce-back e-mails. I need to sort by e-mail address so I can track users e-mail patterns (mailbox is full...unknown user) stuff like that and remove them from our list. A filter rule will not work because there are many e-mails from different servers. Thank you Micah Gersten
