The taskmanager in the panel allows to sort the window entries automatically according to their appearance on desktops or activities. That's fine but gives one problem to me: I want to have my window entries sorted in desktop order but at the same time in the order they appear on the desktops from left to right. I am optically oriented and as that is my reading and looking direction it is "naturally" for me. But instead they seem to be sorted alphabetically. That's totally confusing and messed up for me (and not always obvious as the shown name is not the name of the application). E.g. with "by desktop" I start applications in the order kate, kontact and chromium (all on one desktop). They appear on destkop in the order kate, chromium, kontact (as kontact tooks longer to start). In the taskmanager they appear in the order chromium, kate, kontact but are show as Startpage, Unbenannt, Posteingang. So I have 4 different orders: the starting order, the appearance inside the desktop, the alphabetical application order in the taskmanager and the totally unsorted order of the button names... It would be ok if the starting order would be "by desktop" together with "alphabetically" *if* the user would be able to sort the entries manually (but once you choose manually the preset isn't "by desktop" and when you choose "by desktop" you cannot sort manually at all. It would be even better if the user does not *have to* take corrective action. Therefore I beg you to make "by desktop" and "by activity" a setting that can be *combined* with the settings "manually", "alphabetically" and new settings "from left to right" and "from right to left" (and maybe "by time they appear first") and not to hard-wire it with "alphabetically". Reproducible: Always
I don't really understand this report. FWIW, here's how it works in the current version of the Task Manager (5.7) with "By Desktop" sorting: Tasks are sorted by desktop number, and then alphabetical sorting. Alphabetical sorting sorts first by application name, and then by window title. What exactly do you want differently?
