Description Jens 2016-06-15 18:36:23 UTC
Meanwhile I had twice a system notification about new system updates. Usually the muon icon appears next to the notification icon in the system tray but not those recent two times.

So when I start muon updater (manually) it states that the system is up to date.

Now when I start a check for updates it starts loading the software list and stops with the message that everything is up to date.
Meanwhile something new: on the third manual update check an error message appeared saying "unable to load packages" but without details available. But again the status says everything is up to date.

What can I do? Who can help?

By the way, this is my second incident with muon updater. Is it possible to install a newer version for my Kubuntu 14.04 that might work better?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. run muon updater
2. click "Check for Updates" (not sure about the original menu title)

Actual Results:
nothing – except the notification that the system is up to date which seems not to be

Expected Results:
the system should update

Today muon updater ran through with a two program updates. But I'm not sure if the problem really is solved as it didn't run for 6 days now which is not quite common regarding my update history.

Today again muon updater did not load the notified updates. So the problem still remains.

Dear Bug Submitter,

This bug has been stagnant for a long time. Could you help us out and re-test if the bug is valid in the latest version? I am setting the status to NEEDSINFO pending your response, please change the Status back to REPORTED when you respond.

Thank you for helping us make KDE software even better for everyone!

Hello Andrew Crouthamel,

I already could handle this faulty behaviour by using apt-get update and upgrade in the terminal.

I'm sorry not to be able to remember the exact cause of this former error, but in the meantime I could figure out that muon ***always*** behaves like this when any kind of error happens on updating/upgrading system components and with kept back packages either by error or by intention.

I guess at least an error message would be quite helpful on this issue to have a clue, what this error is about so the user can do a workaround with the terminal and maybe get help from the package sources that failed to update/upgrade.

The muon version is still the same as there is no version upgrade available for Kubuntu 14 LTS.

Thanks for the reminder!

Jens

PS: I'm not sure about the status selection as though I found a work around the issue itself still isn't solved.

Thank you for the crash report.

As it has been a while since this was reported, can you please test and confirm if this issue is still occurring or if this bug report can be marked as resolved.

I have set the bug status to "needsinfo" pending your response, please change back to "reported" or "resolved/worksforme" when you respond, thank you.

Hi there,

well, actually I've tried to test muon since once or twice. But as far as I could/did follow updates nothing changed. Anyway I find updates much more significant with apt-get. For me muon has simply become a signal head for new updates and so I'm pretty fine with it.

Anyway in the meantime this version of muon seems to be quite outdated and the Trusty ESM will also run out in about half a year. So no need to fiddle around with it any more ;)

Nevertheless, if anyone still wants to fix it, I'm here – if needed.
