Description Denis Moon 2016-06-09 10:41:14 UTC
Kubuntu 16.04 fresh install on PC doesn't allow any power management. Suspend key doesn't work on the keyboard. If I go to System Settings/Startup and Shutdown services/Background Services, I see Power Management service not running. Then if I click start, I get:

Unable to start service powerdevil. Error: Message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying.

The bug affects not only me. See https://plus.google.com/communities/108139456908538054874

Reproducible: Always

I did my weekly Debian Testing update last night (2016-06-10), and today I also experienced this issue.

However, in my case at least, it appears to have been a binary/lib version mismatch.
The main powerdevil packages were upgraded to 4:5.6.4-2, however libpowerdevilcore2 was *not* upgraded at the same time, remaining at 4:5.4.3-1.

After I'd resolved the minor issues with an `aptitude full-upgrade libpowerdevilcore2`, I was able to start the "Power Management" service as expected.

Can you kill kded5 and then run kded5 from console and see what it says there?
I've been experiencing issues in Kubuntu where powerdevil failed to load because of symbol lookup errors, ie. distribution/packaging problem.
