gpg prints at least that there is no valid user ID. It does not print the option "--allow-non-selfsigned-uid" automatically which would be helpful, too.
kpgp should allow to use this option when importing a key.

I am not an expert but from what I've read, the mail adress of an user might be manipulated but for non trusted keys that wouldn't matter anyway since they are not trusted anyway.
