Description Adam Earle 2016-06-02 07:41:18 UTC
Every time I go to use the brush engine Krita crashes and almost the system becomes really sluggish

When the brush engine menu opens up the tips images come in squashed
I haven't been able to test anything else yet.

Also crashes when i am drawing sometimes

This happens in 32 and 64 open gl on and off

Computer specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 unlimited SP 1
Ram: 32 gigs of ram
Screens: Wacom Cintiq DTZ 2100, Viano TV, Samsung computer screen
Graphics card; GTX 960
Motherboard Intel core i5-2400 CPU @ 3.1GHz (I know its old)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open krita
2. Create new document
3. open brush engine up
4. Brush tip icons are squished
5. Select brush style change
6. Switch back so that the Brush icons correct themselves
7. Try and draw in preview windows
8. Krita crash

Actual Results:
Krita crashes

Expected Results:
Krita will brush engine will work and not crash

good luck

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your report. I haven't heard of a problem like this before:
it is likely specific to your system, I'm afraid. The specs look good
and since you say it happens both if you run the 32 and the 64 bits
version of Krita, and with opengl on and off, it's not likely to be
related to your opengl driver. Wacom tablets also don't cause crashes
like trust or peritab do. The CPU should be fine. Are you running any
special security software such as sandboxie or non-standard virus
checkers?

No everything really is kinda straight out of the box. Microsoft security for what its worth.

I have trialed portables and installs as well. Any ideas where to start looking next? I would love to find it out and pass the knowledge on to you guys. I might do some digging around on the net tomorrow during lunch.

Any suggestion would be great ;)

I secretly kinda love this stuff, but only in downtime.

Thanks

I'm really out of options to suggest -- well, have you tried to remove the kritarc file from AppData\Local\krita for 3.0? Do you maybe have access to another windows machine where you can test?

Awesome idea mate about the app data it worked

But I had to do a complete
Uninstalled Krita
removed AppData/ Roaming/ Krita
removed AppData/ Local/ Krita

and so far so good. The strange thing is that the first time I open the krita drop down for the brushes they open up as squashed still. Know idea on where to start with that.

Also a few version ago there was the option in the toolbar to remove names from any buttons that were added to the bar. this was an awesome feature an awesome feature because i had enough space on there to put all the animation icons

thanks heaps mate
