When a window is open, hovering the mouse pointer on the task manager allows a pop-up preview. When the window gets minimized, you can't preview it anymore. That renders this feature 50% useless because during an everyday work with your computer, with many active windows, you can't be sure they will all be maximized. They may be minimized. And then, you can't preview them. Please consider this bug because it is a simple feature that all advanced desktop environments have from cinnamon to windows 10. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open firefox 2.Hover your mouse on the task manager, where the firefox task is 3.Notice you can view the preview of the firefox window 4.Minimize firefox 5.Repeat step 2. 6.Notice that you cannot preview firefox anymore. (you can, in ALL other desktop environments)
I can confirm. Might be related to this https://quickgit.kde.org/?p=plasma-framework.git&a=commit&h=1e196fdfb2a6eaf1664e1155c086616d55c6712b We stop redirecting when the thumbnail closes for performance reasons. The problem is that when on X a window is minimized the window is *gone* and you cannot grab a thumbnail anymore. As a workaround you can enable "Keep thumbnails (breaks minmization)" in Compositor settings. (Also, Wayland will fix it)
Yes but in cinnamon this one works, for example, and is pretty useful because I usually end up with many windows (most of them minimized) and I can't preview them. Which would be very handy because you can easily see what's going on without opening the window and being "distracted". But ok, let's wait for wayland.......
I can't reproduce, i'm on "Only for shown windows" and EGL.

Wait, I went to the compositor settings and selected "always on" for windows thumbnails. I think it is fixed. That is a very weird place to place this setting :/
Well without compositing you can't do thumbnails now can you? :)
