When you try to delete the last email int the message list and having the preview to see the email (below for me), the contents of the email do not empty. I tried both deleting the last email and moving it to a different folder and the results are the same. When you change folder and get back to inbox, both list and preview are empty. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Delete last email from inbox 2. 3. Actual Results: Email preview is still being displayed. Expected Results: Email preview should be empty as it occurs after changin to another folder and back.
I am running Kubuntu 16.04 with Neon on top. KMail is working great except for a problem similar to the OP's. On the last email in the input box message list, when I drag the msg title to a folder, or delete it, the message body is cleared but the message title in the message list is not. I have to click on another folder and then click again on the input box to clear it. No information is changed or lost, unless I deleted it. It is as if the msg title of the msg was a ghost.
This bug has never been confirmed for a KDE PIM version that is based on KDE Frameworks, except possibly a Technology Preview version 5.0.x. Those Framework-based versions differ significantly from the old 4.x series. Therefore, I plan to close it in around two or three months. In the meantime, it is set to WAITINGFORINFO to give reporters the opportunity to check if it is still valid. As soon as someone confirms it for a recent version (at least 5.1, ideally even more recent), I'll gladly reopen it. Please make sure to state your version of the KDE PIM suite (Help -> About <Application>). Please understand that we lack the manpower to triage bugs reported for versions almost two years beyond their end of life.
I am running KDE Neon User Edition, fully updated. It has Plasma 5.10 and KMail 5.5.2. The behavior now is as follows: 1. Read and dispose of all mail by either moving them to a folder or deleting them. 2. Delete the last unread email. The subject line disappears but the body of the email remains visible. 3. Click on an empty folder. The body of the email clears. 4. Go back to the inbox. The subject line and the body are clear.

Hello Justin, Sorry not to have reported for so long. It seems that in the newer versions the bug is gone. I confirm that when you empty the trash, or delete the last mail from a folder, the mail is not displayed any more. Kind Regards, Kosmas.
