Cannot reproduce on git master; as I'm using extract frames around 20-40x in each of my several project over the course of the past months I'm surprised that there is a problem at all.

Which distro do you use?
Is this a KDE distro?
If it isn't a KDE distro, did you install the full KDE system, both frameworks as well as plasma shell?
Which MLT version do you use?
Which options did you check in the extract frame dialog?

I am on Kubuntu 16.04.1, recently upgraded to, and it doesnt work for me

If you add ".png" the file will be saved. The automatic extension is not working as on previous releases.

Then this is an installation issue. I'm on Kubuntu 16.04 LTS and saving without explicitly specifying the .png extension works. I know as I just finished yesterday another daytime project in Kdenlive 16.08.0 using a lot of pngs saved from the clip monitor.

This bug behaves exactly as described initially. I'm using 2022.12.3 on Windows 10 professional 64-bit. Frame extraction menu behaves exactly as expected, but no file created. (Checked selected directory. Also, Windows file search does not find any file by the selected name in any folder.)
Found this on 2022.08.3, updated hoping it had been fixed, but no change in behavior.

BTW, thank you all for this tool. I'm only an occasional user, but it is great for my Tesla coil etc. videos.

Make sure the playhead is over the desired clip in the timeline. Try to save the png on the desktop so you can check if the file is created.

Same problem in version 23.08.3, the first time I installed it. As the program opened, I added a video to the sequence, I put the playhead where I wanted to extract the image and I clicked to extract without generating the file .png, after trying several times and looking at the configuration (I have installed the Speach to Text dependencies, I don't know if it has anything to do with it) and I decided to do Reset Configuration, once it has been opened again I have try it and this time it worked for me.

I think “Reset Configuration» does the trick.
