Description Dan Dart 2016-05-05 15:47:59 UTC
Once I set up my kmail, the message list view just shows invisible / missing text for subject/from/date.
Tried to look at other inboxes ut same for every one.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. View message list

Actual Results:
Blank/invisible/missing subject/sender/date

Expected Results:
Present subject/sender/date

I have updated my kernel to 4.6 but surely that won't have done it?
Ubuntu 16.04 upgraded from 15.10 using do-release-upgrade.

Also on openSUSE:

KDE frameworks 5.22.0
 Qt 5.6.0
kmail2 5.2.1

all emails seem to be preserved but only possible to identify them by opening them (a "blank envelope" problem)

> Also on openSUSE:

clean install of Tumbleweed 20160525 with updates
mail imported from KDE4 kmail2,
kmail2 happily working for about 5 days

Hi,

can you check if you go to KMail -> Settings -> Configure KMail -> Appearance -> Colors and toggle the "Use Custom Colors" checkbox (and Apply), if the text becomes readable again?

This looks like the painting code is not picking up the right colors...

thanks for investigating, here's everything I know to date:

It's a two user system - one with about 20 emails, one with about 5,500:

- both had had custom colours selected (light blue is a bit faint for old blokes, hint)
- the problem manifested on the 5,500 account
- toggling custom colours (and logging out, logging in) didn't seem to work
- during weeding out the 5,500 email account - including using the search function, the problem righted itself
- everything at the moment is ok

sorry, one more thing- the "dividers" in this case by date, were also blank, see attachment

and, once expanded to show contents, the dividers were not collapsible again

I experienced the same problem here.

I was able to "fix" it by choosing a different theme in View->Message List->Theme and then switching back to the original one.
As I do not have the problem any more now, it would seem to me that somehow that setting got corrupted/imported incorrectly by the updated version...

in my case it was a clean install, and the mail was imported via the kmail utility. I don't think there were any legacy settings

BTW, there are another problem happend with this one:
KMail startup screen have a introduce page on mail vieweing frame, but it should be replaced when clicking a mailbox folder. It doesn't being replaced. I found a way to solve this:
Settings -> Configure KMail -> Apparence -> Layout,
Mail previewing panel, selecting 'Display beside mail list'.
BTW, I am using a Chinese translation, So things above may be different with English, and I cannot change to English because there is no language override option in Help menu.
After that I finally got access to mail list, but it just a blank. Yup, that is current issue.

For new readers, this is a two user system, one a heavy user of kmail the other not.

The problem had disappeared since June (no updates, that's my job...) and has just reoccurred

I can confirm that Wolfgang Bauer's "fix" (comment 11) fixed it here too but is there a better solution pending, please?
