(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: kcalc Version: KDE 2.2.2 Severity: wishlist Installed from: Not Specified Compiler: Not Specified OS: Not Specified OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified While Kcalc has some nice features and requests for more features it would make sense to have a simple 10 - key interface. My parents are > 60 and starting to move towards Linux. A simple 10-key for them and I think others would be a nice and easy to use. (Submitted via bugs.kde.org)
It think this usability problem can be solved by making kcalc "skinable". When this is done it will be also posible for example to make a skin that looks like this: http://www.datamath.org/Sci/Modern/Images/TI-40College.jpg When this is possible computernewbies that already can work with some calculator, can directly start using kcalc.
kcalc definatly shouldn't be skinnable.. that's a usability problem in itself and is simply not consistant with the rest of KDE. On the other hand, a simple mode for kcalc might be useful (even set as default)
KCalc in KDE 3.2 will have this options to show/hide some/all extra buttons.
