Trying to run kdenlive on wayland. The exact behavior seems to vary depending on the compositor (and potentially other aspects), but in any case it is not useable. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start a wayland compositor (I tried both sway and weston) 2. export QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland-egl 3. Start kdenlive
I would be interested to know if other KDE Applications work ? I am not sure this is a Kdenlive specific issue... I don't have a working wayland setup to test, so any info is welcome.
I don't use much KDE software, but kate and konsole seem to work fine under wayland. As far as I am aware, most KDE software (including kwin, though I think the wayland port is experimental) does. I think it would be possible to make kdenlive force the xorg backend, as it seems to work fine under xwayland. This would obviously not be a long term solution, however.
Ian, can you please retest with current stable Kdenlive 16.04.2? If not, can you please supply more details about what isn't working, crash logs, et cetera?
Created attachment 100569 [details] Screenshot of kdenlive running in sway This is what Kdenlive looks like for me under Wayland. Obviously it is not rendering properly. This is with the latest version of Kdenlive on an up-to-date Arch Linux system. If it is relevant, my system has Intel integrated graphics (specifically an Ivy Bridge).
Does OpenGL work correctly on Wayland? Also, do other Qt applications work correctly on Wayland?
Yes, most QT software works on Wayland, and OpenGL software generally works as well.
Here for me it works: ChakraOS testing repos kdenlive 16.08.02 KDE frameworks 5.27 plasma 5.8.2 intel video driver 2.99.917
I am running Kdenlive or Archlinux with Gnome 3.22 under Wayland and it works.
So, can we close and retire this report?
I think this is an issue with OP's system rather than Kdenlive...
I bet you a beer that you use nvidia card + nouveau....
Closing, as there is no feedback from original reporter, and others have reported success.
