Description slartibart70 2016-04-24 20:13:04 UTC
Alt and meta is a good start,
but what about the super key? Maybe another key, like control, could be a good choice?

Any idea why we do have only 2 options here without any means of configuration?

Reproducible: Always

Which shortcut do you mean?
can you include a screenshot of the config?

Sorry for the missing context:

- open systemsetting5
- go into 'window management'
- open 'window behaviour'
- select tab 'window actions'

in th group 'inner window, titlebar and frame' there is a dropdown for the 'modifier key' which consists only of the entries
- Alt
- Meta
and there is no way to configure any other keys except those two...

This would be favourable esp. when being inside vm's where the modifier keys act on the vm-parent window and not on the windows inside the vm. Ok, having at least 'meta' as a (working) alternative is good, any other keys i might prefer are out of reach because i cannot configure them being a 'modifier' key...

Unless you've a Lisp keyboard, "Meta" *is* the "super" key (ie. if you've a typical Windows keyboard, the "windows" key) ...
The problem with the key is the conflicting mouse usage - even Alt (the defacto standard predating the widespread re-availability of the meta key) kills some Gimp features, Ctrl would be far worse.

We could probably have distinct Meta/Hyper/Super but be aware that that isn't stock-supported by any conumer keyboard (you'd have to re-map keys)

An alternative might be to ignore the bmod key along the global shortcuts window rule (if that isn't the case anyway, don't know at hand)

I'm sorry to say, but I don't see a need in supporting more than two modifiers.
