Description Stephen Kraemer 2016-04-09 22:35:00 UTC
Panel does not auto-hide if it is set to auto-hide. If set to windows can cover, it also does not allow windows to cover it.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set panel to auto-hide
2. Move mouse away from panel
3. Panel does not auto-hide

Actual Results:
Panel stays on top of windows, and does not hide

Expected Results:
Panel should auto-hide

Comment 3 rom85 2016-04-11 08:21:42 UTC
After upgrade it's still reproducible on 5.6.2.
Comment 4 rom85 2016-04-11 09:10:14 UTC
Fixed by removing ~/.config/plasmashellrc file and restarting PC.
Comment 5 Stephen Kraemer 2016-04-12 00:36:37 UTC
Tried removing my ~/.config/plasmashellrc and rebooting as suggested by rom85@i.ua, but did not work.
Comment 6 David Edmundson 2016-04-12 23:24:00 UTC
Is system settings -> desktop behaviour -> screen edges -> "switch desktop on edge" enabled?
Comment 7 Stephen Kraemer 2016-04-12 23:27:18 UTC
No, "switch desktop on edge" is disabled.
Comment 8 Stephen Kraemer 2016-04-15 12:37:26 UTC
Is there any more information I can provide to help this bug investigation? It is quite frustrating, and I haven't been able to find a workaround yet.
Comment 9 Sebastien 2016-04-17 06:33:44 UTC
The same problem : "Autohide" or "Windows Can Cover" have the same result as "Windows Go Below".

And the ~/.config/plasmashellrc file is rewrited each 1min, without any modification.

Same issue in Fedora 23 after upgrade to 5.6.2 - autohide does not work, panel is always visible.

Possible dublicate: Bug 362105 - Taskbar options 'autohide'/'windows can cover' not functional - https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=362105

I was able to fix it by logging out of KDE, logging into tty2 and deleting ~/.config/plasmashellrc. Once I rebooted into KDE, I reset the panel to 'autohide'. And much to my surprise, it did.

sorry to say,
but this trick did not work out for me... Still having problems with autohide
Comment 15 slartibart70 2016-05-06 20:26:05 UTC
seems to be fixed in 5.6.3
Comment 16 Daniel 2016-05-12 23:48:44 UTC
This issue is not fixed in 5.6.3. Since installing this version I have started experiencing the issue of task bar not auto-hiding when I have never experienced it before. "Always visible" is the only taskbar option that seems to change anything. All of the others make no difference. Entirely removing any KDE/Plasma config and re-installing the package made no difference. Creating a completely new user to ensure config purity makes no difference.

This bug is insanely annoying as I utilize my entire desktop area always.

Happens to me as well. Default panel is not disappearing but if i create an empty one and add all widgets in there from default one it works, well sort of.

Same for me. In 5.8.4. Panel won't autohide and windows won't cover panel if that setting is selected.

I have this problem on up-to-date kubuntu 16.10 (I don't know plasma version because About Kde dialog does not show it for some reason...) on dual monitor setup.
However auto-hide works on "outward" edges, breaks on "inward" edges only.
To clarify, placing panel top or bottom -> auto-hide works. Placing on left side of left monitor or right side or fight monitor -> works.
Right side of left monitor or left side of right monitor -> broken.

I have EXACTLY that problems since appeared Plasma. I can't have an autohided panel between monitor edges. Must be open a new thread? Cause this appear as "RESOLVED", and that's not true for us with dual monitor.
