Description Brandon 2016-03-28 06:15:26 UTC
Every long period of usage, usually a half hour to an hour, a memory leak by the plasmashell process occurs.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use the plasma environment for an extended period of time

Actual Results:
The plasmashell process takes up all available memory, dragging the computer to a near halt. Eventually the process is killed and when restarted everything returns to normal.

I was able to get a screenshot of top before the computer became unusable (apologies for the small font because I need to keep it running always-on-top in order to catch it fast enough):

Expected Results:
The plasmashell process would not use an exorbitant amount of memory.

KInfoCenter reports a quad core Intel N3540 at 2.16 GHz with 3.7 GiB of RAM

I apologize that I don't have a lot any debugging data to share because I don't know what exactly to do for that. I will be happy to try giving any debug data that's instructed to me to collect.

additional info

I am having the same issue. The plasmashell process will start out using about 220MB of memory and after an hour become about 1.5GB memory usage. I am running this on Kubuntu 15.10, Plasma verison 5.6.90 from the Neon repository

Hardware:
Intel 4690K
8GB DDR3
Nvidia GTX 970 running driver 352.63

10 Gb memory usage

Confirming the problem. After a while a performance becomes very sluggish, need to relogin.
On thing I noticed also that a system tray stop adding icons at some point, could be related problem.

Attaching a picture.
