Description Petr Břeň 2016-03-25 17:01:05 UTC
In older versions (KDE 4.x) this can be set up using System Settings > Shortcuts and Gestures > Global Keyboard Shortcuts > KDE Component: KDE Activity Manager - Add custom shortcuts.

However, in Plasma 5 there is no Activty Manager in the KDE component menu, despite the fact that the package kde-plasma-activitymanager is installed and kactivitymanagerd is running.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to System Settings > Shortcuts and Gestures > Global Keyboard Shortcuts
2. Look at the KDE Component menu

Actual Results:
There is no KDE Activity manager in the KDE Component menu

Expected Results:
KDE Activity manager in the KDE Component menu can be used to change key bindings related to activities such as Alt+A

The actual version is KDE 5.5.5 (Qt 5.5.1) but that can't be selected in the menu above.

I have to correct my previous assertion about the problem being new with KDE Plasma 5.

I just checked KDE4 in Debian 8 and CentOS 7 and the Alt+A is indeed impossible to change there as well.

Searching for Alt+A in KDE's config files doesn't return anything except Ctrl+Alt+A which is for something different.

The Alt+A seems to be hard-coded in KDE. Disappointing for Emacs users. Any chance of that changing in the future?

This also affects Alt+H in Firefox i.e. it does nothing while it's supposed to open the History menu. There has been some discussion about the relation of this problem to kglobalaccel on the forum page to which I posted the link above.

The per-activity shortcuts are now located in the activity condifuration. You can open the activity switcher, and click on the 'Configure' button for an activity. The shortcut setting is on the 'Other' tab.

Now, there is some issue with the activity shortcuts in Plasma 5.7, and that one is the next item on my TODO list.

As for Alt+H and related shortcuts, there is no relation between the issue with activity shortcuts, and these. It is a separate issue, and I'd say it is a setup issue. Neither Alt+H, nor Alt+A are taken by Plasma.
