Description kdebuac.rhn 2016-03-19 16:07:34 UTC
Sometimes, two icons for open windows show up with the background highlight signifying "focused". It comes with the additional problem that such a highlight overrides the "needs attention" highlight, meaning that user no only is misled about active window, but also not informed about events.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click an icon to focus on some window
2. Click on another one

Actual Results:
~1/20 old icon doesn't drop highlight

Expected Results:
Old icon always drops highlight.

I only noticed it because of the missing attention highlight. The only application that regularly asks for my attention is run over ssh -Y.

Double active windows.

Currently active window is Firefox. Gajim's both are not focused. Konsole's state is the "needs attention" highlight I mentioned. It's not possible to determine from this screenshot whether Gajim needs attention or not due to the override.

Plasma 5.7 ships a fully-rewritten Task Manager backend which should resolve these issues. Please re-test with the Plasma 5.7 final release and feel free to reopen if problems do persist after all.

The problem has gotten worse in 7.1.
Now, I get *no indication whatsoever* when a window requests attention in another virtual desktop. It may be unrelated, but:
When switching to the desktop with a window requesting attention, it's not unusual for *all* windows to be marked as active, therefore not only obscuring notifications, but also defeating the point of showing active window.

This is after half a day of usage, and let me voice my frustration: this bug already made me miss on conversations and brought me to the edge when it comes to ditching KDE altogether because of its quality, which has been decreasing since 5.x series started.

The steps to reproduce might be a bit different, since I'm not certain if this is the same original bug.

To see multiple highlights:

1. Open plenty of windows.
2. Switch to another virtual desktop.
3. ?
4. Switch back

Result: ~1/10 chance to see all windows marked as active.
Expected: maximum of one window marked as active.

To see ignored notifications:

0. Configure task manager to only show windows from active virtual desktop.
1. Open a window which marks need for attention by task manager highlight.
2. Switch to another virtual desktop.
3. Cause the window to request attention (e.g. send a message to your instance of Gajim)

Result: Nothing.
Expected: Window requesting attention appears on task manager (as with plasma <5.7).

"Demands attention" and "active" are two different states, and the above is a separate bug - that was already fixed for 5.7.3 though.
