Description Daniil Vasin 2016-03-15 03:56:11 UTC
After using id3 to change the albumartist tag to one artist, Amarok still uses some other way to sort album artists. What does Amarok read as the Album Artist from the id3 tag?

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Myriam Schweingruber 2016-03-15 10:39:00 UTC
Please do not file bugs for support questions.

FWIW: Amarok uses the albumartist ID3 tag, if that tag is empty, it reads the artist ID3 tag.

Then I would like to file the bug anyway, although I need to change it to "Amarok does read the albumartist ID3 tag in mp3 files". I have ensured that my audio files have albumartist assigned to an artist, but whenever I look inside their track info in Amarok, it simply uses the track artist, and proceeds to sort my album artist library by track artist.

"doesn't read"* Sorry for the typo
Comment 4 Myriam Schweingruber 2016-03-16 11:07:29 UTC
I can't reproduce what you say here with my tracks, a wild mixture of MP3, Ogg and FLAC. Using Amarok from git master, so 2.8.90 aka 2.9 beta is probably the closest release to that, and no changes in metadata use since the beta release.
Mind you, most of the time the track artist and album artist are simply identical anyway ...

Could you please provide a concrete example of your findings with the default sorting?

I will provide it in a week, I am away from my music library currently

Any news on this?
Comment 7 Daniil Vasin 2016-06-14 22:07:59 UTC
Well apparently the issue moved from mp3 tags to Vorbis tags in flac files. I am attaching a screenshot of what I see for a sample file

Maybe I am too dumb, but I fail to see what is wrong, it does show the track under the correct tag you have in Album Artist.
Why did you change back to amarok 2.8.0 when you previously had 2.9 beta?
Comment 10 Daniil Vasin 2016-06-17 06:41:16 UTC
To explain a bit: the only tag editor that show that tag is Amarok's own via edit track info, the two tag editors on the right-hand side show that the Album Artist is actually simply "Yellow Claw", whereas Amarok seems to be getting the tag either from its autogeneration method it has or I don't know where.

About the version change I honestly do not remember if I had the beta installed, I might have miswrote it, I checked it again and it actually says 2.8. It might have something to do with the fact that I installed neon on top of kubuntu perhaps?

Could you maybe give an output of what kid3 produces for that album? I have no problems on my side with current git master (which is close to 2.8.90, the 2.9 beta release), but that might be due to me not having similar music.

What do you mean?
Comment 13 Myriam Schweingruber 2016-06-23 23:38:13 UTC
Well, kid3 is a tag editor, which shows both id3 v1 and v2 tags, might give you an insight on where the tag comes from

Any news on this?
Comment 15 Daniil Vasin 2017-02-22 03:08:17 UTC
Yea it turned out that it was preferring earlier ID3 tags over the newer versions, I edited my library to remove old tags

Thank you for the feedback, closing then.
