Description mathojojo 2016-03-04 17:26:18 UTC
Hello,

I'm a good sound fanatic ! That's why I disabled pulseaudio, in order to avoid any resampling process on my music.

I restarted my computer, and now, in the Multimedia Module of systemsettings, there is no any device listed (but "default") in Phonon. So, I can't set any device as default :(.
I tried to check the "show advanced devices", but nothing more appeared.

In the past I did the same thing successfully. When I removed Pulseaudio, phonon listed all alsa devices, and I could choose one and the play music.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Disable or remove Pulseaudio
2. restart Computer
3. Phonon doesn't list any alsa device

Actual Results:
I can't select a sound device when I remove or disable pulseaudio.

Expected Results:
1. Disable or remove Pulseaudio
2. restart Computer
3. Phonon should now list all alsa devices, instead of pulseaudio server

I tried DeadBeef (music player). We can choose the sound device in the player. All alsa devices are listed in this app.

So, I think Alsa is fine, but phonon ha a problem to list its devices.

You have to make sure the gstreamer-alsa respectively the vlc-alsa plugins are installed depending on which phonon backend you use.

Thank you for your answer.

I'm using gstreamer engine, on a fresh install of Kubuntu 16.04, so I have :

- phonon-backend-gstreamer (was already installed)
- gstreamer-alsa ( was not installed. so I installed it).

After restarting, the problem is still present ! I can't have any device listed when pulseaudio is disabled.

As I said on #kde IRC channel, it worked in the past. The might be a bug somewhere now !
