Description Kubie 2016-02-24 01:10:02 UTC
My Krita seems to spike up and down in terms of processor consumption, going from a small amount and spiking to 100%, causing the program to become unresponsive for a time. This happens upon start up, at least twice, again when choosing and trying to open the document type, and intermittently when actually working in the program.

This happens every time the program is run regardless of other programs bring run (I can have a few open, but this makes the issue worse, so I usually quit all but Krita when working, and the issue still arises, just not as frequently).

Reproducible: Always

Intel Duel Core processor; "Intel(r) Celeron (r) CPU N2840@ 2.15GHz (if that matters, not sure as I'm not swell with computers).

Hm... I wonder...

If you go into settings->configure Krita->general->miscelaneous. There should be an option called 'autosave'. If you turn that off, does the intermittent freeze still occur?

(Another way to answer that is, if the freeze occurs, do you see 'autosaving' being written in the status bar?)

(Autosave is a really useful feature, so I wouldn't recommend turning it off altogether, you could set it to 60 minutes, so that you take a little break from drawing and krita saves your file)

Adding that I updated to the 2.9.11 last night in hopes the processing issues would be less invasive. I did go ahead and bump the auto save to 60min. I typically do the save command quite often myself. I have had Krita randomly just crash out of nowhere with no reason given, so I save, save, save, save often. I'm hoping that issue won't happen in this latest version.

Initial start up results in it going unresponsive, but it seems to bounce back quicker despite spiking to 100%.

Upon document selection, it did go unresponsive again, but not for nearly as long, and this was with the following running in the background: Chrome, Firefox, and Telegram.

Initial saving triggers an brief unresponsive state.

I did notice that pen pressure seems to disappear sometimes, forcing me to restart the program... unsure what causes that to happen. I have lag when using some of the more complex brushes as well.

I took some screenies of my computer's performance whilst doing some messing around in Krita, if that helps at all?

Can you check if it makes a difference if you enable or disable opengl?

Does the 3.0 pre-alpha 2 show the same issue? (https://krita.org/item/krita-2-9-11-and-the-second-3-0-alpha-build/)

Do you have any "security" software installed, like sandboxie or macafee?
Comment 5 Kubie 2016-03-17 21:50:52 UTC
No difference that I could pick up on with enable/disabling opengl.

I couldn't get the pre alpha to run on my laptop.. Thinking I might have done something wrong. The last time I updated, it did everything automatically and I didn't have to worry about digging thru my computer trying to find the program. I can't find anything under that name.

I've got AVG.

The 3.0 pre-alpha 3 does not need installing: just unzip the zip file, then if necessary, run the vcredist.exe (it's need if on starting Krita, a message box pops up claiming some microsoft dll is missing), and then double-click on the krita link.

Please try the 3.0 final release.
