2. compile
3. Lintian cries.

Actual Results:  
Lintain error

Expected Results:  
No error

%f, %F, %u or %U for the Exec key

In the .desktop file, the MimeType field is empty. Could you try removing that line and see if Lintian stops crying?

Removing the line stops the warning, but what is the planned/expected behaviour?

If MimeTypes= key is empty there's no point in having it, I'd say just remove it and be done
