Icons placed on the desktop in folder view cannot be moved and positioned freely where I want to have them, they always snap to some grid position. In earlier versions I could select if I want to layout them in a given grid or position them where I want, now there is no such setting anymore. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. put an icon on desktop (i.e. move a menu-item, firefox, out of the menu and copy it on the desktop screen in folder view) 2. try to move that icon to an arbitrary position. It will automatically move the the next grid-position. 3. try to move it just a little bit up/down/left/right and leave it there - it snaps back to the grid position Expected Results: the icon stays where I placed it No doubt that the KDE programmers have very ordered, beautiful and perfect desktops on their machines, but I want my own, even if you think yours is better... This is a very, very old feature that was always available since I can remember, and it is really missing now.
This folder view widget has the icons locked using "snap to grid". This is broken by design. I would recommend bringing back what we had in KDE4. KDE4 allowed us to place the icons where we wanted in whatever order or row that we liked. Plasma 5's folder plasmoid is a step backward. Please fix.
Follow Up Problem still exists in Plasma 5.6.4.

Can a fix be arranged for Plasma 5.7 and backported for users using Plasma 5.6x? This is a serious bug?
Surely this MUST be a confirmed bug.
After speaking with Eike I'm getting the impression that she does not plan on changing anything. Maybe in Plasma 6, when the flat view can have an improved look as previously available in KDE4 ;-)
