Created attachment 97180 [details] Amarok skips the second and the third track without doing anything Amarok sometimes start playing tracks for about one second and the it skips them. Sometimes this happenes up to about 4 times in a row and sometimes it additionaly skips the first seconds of that track that will be played. Sometimes the lyrics in the middle display the lyrics of a skipped song afterwards. And sometimes CPU load is increasing... I'm in shuffle mode: "Random tracks". I don't have to do something, this happens by itself. I took a screencast and added it as attachement. Bug 137968 and 208716 describe similar issues but are far outdated.
this issue appeared in the recent days but I don't know what was changed.
The other bugs are totally irrelevant as they refer to an Amarok version that worked totally differently. Which phonon backend and version do you use? Does this also happen with the other backend? Is this reproducible? Where are those tracks located?
- Phonon Backend: GStreamer 4.8.2 - I have no other Phonon backend (how can I install other backends? which one is the best? :D ) - Very reproducible since the last weeks (every ~10th track this happens) - All tracks are located in the "Local Collection" (on my local HDD (not the systems SSD)) sorry for ignoring the bug reporting template...
Created attachment 97210 [details] Debug output while amarok skips a track - I listened "Vance Joy" - "Ministry of Sound: Sunset Soul" - "Riptide (FlicFlac edit)" - after that amarok skips "Robert.B" - "33. Shaggy - Boombastic" - and amarok keeps playing "Calvin Harris feat Haim" - "Pray To God" - "Mike Pickering vs Calvin Harris Hacienda Remix"

I can't tell you "which is the best", as some people prefer the gstreamer one (more features), others prefer the vlc one.
What file type are those, all the same or different ones? Last I had seen such a skip was due to a missing codec, please check you have the codecs (gstreamer 1.x plugins) for MP3, aac and other proprietary formats, by default only Ogg, WAV and FLAC will play.
Mh all my tracks are converted to ogg and there very few mp3s but this happens too often, I don't think it happen because of that). I haven't all gstreamer1 plugins installed but I can play MP3 (and I think aac) (I installed codecs from rpmfusion :( ) and of course Ogg, WAV and FLAC.
Could you test with the vlc backend to see if it is related to the backend?
Ok I installed phonon-backend-vlc and I will trie. Until now it didn't happen again, but that may be also caused, because I currently use i3 instead of KDE as Desktop (without plasmashell ;) ) I'll switch back soon and report...
Ok it seems to appear with vlc and gstreamer phonon backend. But only when I start KDE; when I start i3wm and then amarok it doesn't happen...
Interesting. Which exact KDE release are you using?
Is there a reliable way to find out the version? konsole and kate --version says: Qt: 5.5.1 KDE Frameworks: 5.18.0 Konsole: 15.12.1 kded5 --version kded5 5.18.0 kded4 --version Qt: 4.8.7 KDE Development Platform: 4.14.16 KDE Daemon: 4.14.16 amarok --version Qt: 4.8.7 KDE Development Platform: 4.14.16 Amarok: 2.8.0 (For me it looks like that amarok has some problems when changing the track and refreshing all infos: On almost every track change, my HDD starts rotating which needs some time and the GUI of amarok is not running smoothly... or maybe there are problems with dbus/mpris?)
Hello ! I'm experiencing the same problem on my platform (archlinux updated 28/03/2016, plasma desktop 5.6.0-1, amarok 2.8.0-8, phonon backend : gstreamer, feel free to ask for more details if needed). I started from the default amarok configuration and unchecked a lot of features in the amarok configuration panel to detect the faulty one but the problem is still there. As I was searching for a solution, I found this thread https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=205349 and I think the bug reported here may be related to this older one. Below is what I'm exactly experiencing that makes me think they are related. The problem occurs everytime I repeat this scenario. I tested with the playlist repeat mode on "standard" and "repeat album", seems not to have an incidence here. - I start listening to a mp3 album. The first track length is 4:21, 2nd is 4:58, 3rd is 4:15 4th is 4:47 5th is 4:29 6th is 4:25 and 7th is 6:02 The album contains more than 7 tracks but these first 7 ones are enough to explain the problem. - Amarok reads the first and the second tracks entirely - then, it skips the third (which I noticed is shorter) - then, it starts playing the fourth but not from the beginning. It starts at 4:15 (the skipped preceding track duration...). - then it skips both the fifth and sixth tracks (I noticed they are each shorter than their preceding) - and finally plays the 7th.
I think I've figured out the problem... I had a multimedia player plasma widget on my desktop and another one in the notification area (think this one has been added with last plasma update). I removed both (removing only whichever one wasn't enough) and the problem doesn't occur anymore...

In other words: you are running Amarok in plasma 5. I am only partly surprised that you run into some problems, but that is hard to predict and even harder to solve, as there are a lot of things that can potentially go wrong which such a setup. Which exact phonon backend do you use? Please make sure you only use Qt4-based phonon backends with that version, as it has not been ported to Qt5 yet. Track skipping is almost certainly a phonon problem, I have never heard it happening with the vlc backend, though.

Oh I'm sorry, I forgot this. But unfortunately it is still not fixed. Now I'm running fedora 24 with Plasma 5.6 (plasmashell 5.6.4) and Amarok Diagnostics says: General Information: Amarok Version: 2.8.90 KDE Version: 4.14.20 Qt Version: 4.8.7 Phonon Version: 4.9.0 Phonon Backend: GStreamer (4.9.0) PulseAudio: Yes

Since playback is done by the phonon backend, this is a backend problem, as said before. Reassigning the report
