Description Unknown 2016-02-10 20:28:27 UTC
One convenient feature for users might be to have pre-set layouts in addition to the option to customize them? Each user has their own workflow, and the interface plays a part in that. Also, one LARGE benefit, if layouts are styled and named after other mainstream editor layouts, is that users will begin to associate Kdenlive with one of the Big Players in the Film Industry. There's power in a name, after all.

If this sounds like a good idea, consider having Kdenlive's default layout (titled "Kdenlive Default"), an Adobe Premiere Pro styled layout (titled "Adobe Premiere Pro"), A Final Cut Pro layout (titled "Final Cut Pro"), and - possibly - a Shotcut-styled layout (titled "Broadcast"?... I dunno, seems to give it purpose). See mock-ups attached for examples.

These wouldn't replace the custom layout feature, but instead have its own sub-menu in the "View" header menu item. Possibly labeled "Editor Layouts" or "Program Layout", or just "Layouts"? Making it seem like the primary layout modification feature will make many users feel comfortable that they're not responsible for making Kdenlive "how it should be" or "proper", etc. -- they click, choose, and go. Simple, less work, keeps the focus on editing.

Anyways, for your consideration. :)

Reproducible: Always

Suggested while using Kdenlive 15.13.0 build from git master, Fedora 23 x64, GNOME 3.18.

More that that, we have different sized screens, etc.
I would just love to be able to set one of my saved layouts as default.
Having more than 4 layouts would also be nice.

Do you know where the layouts are saved? It may be possible to download someone else's layout if they were attached to this ticket.

@Evert, if that's the case that the layouts can be transferred, I'd be happy to contribute mine. They're already configured to match the other video editors layouts.

I opened this topic up in Phabricator, since it seems more appropriate on there. Closing this bug in tracker.
