When the clipboard buffer is empty, if I middle click on the mouse the kde desktop top will suddenly start slowing down and then freeze. The mouse still operates, and I can switch to the console using Ctl+Alt+F1. A small menu pops up on the desktop that asks for a file locator. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Have fresh reboot. 2. MIddle mouse click on Empty Desktop area. 3. Try clicking on start menu, and it should not be working. Actual Results: Sometimes it will be slow popping up the middle mouse button menu. Sometimes the kde desktop will be working, but be very sluggish before halting. I used top on the F1 console, and it showed that kwin was using 100% cpu. Killing kwin resovled the problem, but kwin was no longer running. Other times kwin does not show up in top. Expected Results: Desktop freeze with system still running. I am using Kubuntu 14.04 3 LTS. KDE has been updated using the ppa. I am not certain if I have plasma 4 or plasma 5, KDElibs Version 4.14.13 Qt Version 4.8.6 Kernel 3.16.0-60-generic OS type 64-bit hardware 8xIntel Xeon CPU x5460 3.16ghz memory 11.7gib of ram
I switched my Operating System to Linux Mint. It has a fresh install with the latest default patch. The middle mouse button does not affect linux mint, only seems to affect kubuntu 14.04 3 LTS
Hello! This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug has already been resolved in Plasma 5. Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging Thanks for your understanding! Nate Graham
