Description romuluspb 2016-01-26 22:01:07 UTC
It steal the mouse point. It should only help on the form not where the form is draw.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. use assistant tool to set an assistant
2. use any magnetism and assistant active in brush
3. draw line

Actual Results:
assistant decide the line should be where I put him, not where I click

Expected Results:
the assistant only help in doing a similar line in the specific angle it is set

This is due to the way magnetism works. Afaik, I don't know anyone who uses magnetism less than 1000 and I am not sure why we allow this to be configured because apparantly it does cause confusion.

The expected result, as far as I can understand, can only be achieved if we provided a parallel spline ruler.
Comment 3 romuluspb 2016-01-26 22:20:15 UTC
maybe it can be replicated as a generic ability? And so a setting on tool options.

I see some assistants are not compatible with this behaviour... (vanish point, for example)

Should we make magnetism a checkbox, instead of a slider?
Comment 6 Marcus Kjeldsen 2016-04-10 11:01:40 UTC
I use the magnitism slider quite a bit! The fine granularity may not be necessary, but adjusting this value is great for preventing the super strict "ruler look" and for adding a human touch to a long straight line, while still maintaining controlled strokes. Mostly I use it with vanishing point and parallell rulers though, where the magnetism doesn't create offsets like that.

Is it possible to give magnetism reduce it's influence outside of a distance to a ruler item?

Or would a quickfix be just to give it it's own label?

It's better to just make a seperate assistant for this. It just needs design and the like.
Comment 8 Halla Rempt 2016-12-08 13:00:33 UTC
If we need a new assistant for it, this issue should be classified as a wish & confirmed.

+1 for this feature request.
Here is my scenario. I am doing a portrait in scratchboard style and I need many parallel (non-straight) lines for this piece, and it would help if spline ruler had the option to convert it to behave like parallel ruler, or it would also be much better if it is possible to draw rulers and certain specified distance from each other and the brush would snap to those lines.

Im working on adding paralellism on spline.

To add to all I would have t:
- merge Ruler and Parallel ruler
- merge ellipse and concentricEllipse (while not parallel it is the same idea)
- add parellelism to spline

VP and Perspective would not use this option.
