Hi,
To gain readability of an account list, I have attempted to add several space between some words of account names.


Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select an account from the Account screen
2. Click on the menu Account / Edit Account
3. In the Name field, add several consecutive spaces between two words
Exemple: 
- original account name:   this is my account name
- modified name:               this is my       account     name

Actual Results:  
The change is visible, displaying the several spaces between words, in all screens except Reports and the Home / Financial summary page, in listings such as Preferred Accounts : only one the several spaces is displayed.
Meaning although the value "this is my       account     name" is correctly saved and displayed as such in most screens, in Reports I only see "this is my account name".

Expected Results:  
I would have expected to see the account names with as many spaces as recorded in the name field.

Note: I am actually trying to tweak the name to group and sort accounts (about 20) on this Home page listings. So I added things like Category, or Bank name, in the account name.
The ideal thing would be to be able to have a way to use these fields in these reports but that would be a feature request. I'll try and file one.

I am quite sure the reason for that is the HTML parser.

However, I recommend to not change the behavior. The intended advantage is likely destroyed by the HTML renderer (or results in ugly formatting). Maybe a grouping by (a list of) tags could be good solution. Also this is probably a feature only a very small group of people is interested in.

I just checked with 5.1.1, where I have a few accounts with multiple spaces in the name (added to affect the sorting on the home page.)  On the home page, the extra spaces DO (correctly) affect the sorting, but they are not shown (presumably due to use of HTML) where the spaces DO show on the Accounts View.
I can't tell from the original post whether the sorting was not working as expected, or not.  If the OP does not respond, I would close as NOTABUG or WORKSFORME, and let the OP open a wishlist to use other fields in the sorting/display of accounts, if still desired.

Hi,
I understand the constraint with HTML parsing.
My tentative of several space was a tweak to compensate for fields/formatting limits.
For instance, on the account list, I would like to see type of account / bank / account name.
As such parameters/choices are not available, I name my accounts with these 3 values to get the info and the sorting required.
We can close this entry addressing the spaces, and I can may be make a different wish/request for the actual field/display need.
