Description Michael Fox 2016-01-21 05:49:35 UTC
You know what is extremely sad.
Windows 10 has Virtual Desktops. Guess what it was inspired by. KDE4.
http://itsfoss.com/windows-10-inspired-linux/

And whats even worse is that people on Windows also love this feature. I have Windows 10 on one hard drive and arch linux on another with KDE4.

I upgraded to KDE5 because of a feature that was in 5 that i wanted. I saw that Virtual Desktops was pretty much broken and instantly reverted to KDE4. BTW that feature that was in KDE5 that i wanted i can't even remember because of the nightmare that is KDE5 due to the fact it has busted Virtual Desktops and your telling us to use activities (which even i hate so much i wish it died).

Literally KDE5 just made linux worse than windows even though windows copied off its predicesor KDE4.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Set a wallpaper on a desktop / set a new widget on the desktop / try to drag an application to another desktop
2.Switch a another desktop
3.Set a wallpaper on a desktop / set a new widget on the desktop / try to drag an application to another desktop

Actual Results:
Wallpaper changes for all desktops / widget is set on all desktops / cant drag an application to another desktop

Expected Results:
Wallpaper changes for one desktop / widget is set on one desktop / can drag an application to another desktop

This crap actually made me do 'sudo rm -r /' and reinstall arch linux from scratch and KDE4 thats how much i hated KDE5.

Now i have read that the reason it was removed is because of the numerous bugs in it. So is their a bug report that contains all these bugs? If not then why? Aside from the facts that numerous bugs are in it, how much pain did you have to go through to think it was a good idea to remove it?

I tbh do not agree with the decision to outright remove a feature everyone uses in kde4 and now Windows (yes kde5 is getting burned by windows, how sad is that?).

Oh the worst part is that technically we can drag applications but ONLY via the small boxes via the pager (which is completely annoying as hell). Even windows managed to do a better job because they made an overlay to drag applications from one desktop to any desktop.

Hell even i would welcome this and be satisfied with this.

However until then i refuse to use KDE5 EVER and any version after. So the moment KDE4 breaks completely im switching to a different desktop manager OR making my own if i get bored enough.

Oh and then even worse. "Walk through Desktop list" and "Walk Through Desktops" DO THE EXACT SAME THING?????!!!!!!

Walk Through Desktops should be the overlay if anything. But at the same time, WTF drugs were you guys on to make the same function with 2 different names?

By overlay i mean a big ass pager overlay that actually shows minified versions of the apps in the desktops instead of illegible boxes that you have no idea which app is which.

>which even i hate so much i wish it died

Even though it has the exact same feature you require with a different name.

See linked report.

Also I do not expect to read messages with that tone on bugzilla, I understand venting, however please understand that it will not acheive the intended result.

It's not even the same feature with a different name. If it was i wouldn't be so damn annoyed like half of your userbase. Your like the pot calling the kettle (in this case the kettle is activities and VD) black. When they aren't even 2 sides of the same coin at all.

If you want something that is literally the same feature with a different name refer to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358294#c3

I mean come on now thats just rediculous.

I could see if you had merged activities and VD into one thing but you didn't.
Also what makes activities annoying is the fact that activities is actually harder to use than VD's it's less user freindly. Merging VD into activites (in the right way) would have greatly reduced the annoyance of your userbase. Instead you decided to completely remove a few features from VD that almoust everyone uses, when it would have been smarter to just merge activites and VD (if you actually beleive that its the "same feature with a different name"). Almoust all of your userbase has completely and utterly bashed and destroyed KDE5 all over the internet and yet you still say "its the same feature so we wont fix it".
If its the same feature then there is ABSOLUTELY no reason for there to be Activities and VD as both do "some" of what a virtual desktop does, so they might as well be merged and called VD.
