Have one or more windows of the konsole application running with several sub-windows each.
System Tray has crashed and was restarted. The konsole icons dissappeared from the Tray and window list and are only shown in task manager. The process list also tells me the konsole is still running. But there's no way to access those windows anymore.
All other icons of running applications still are visible in the System Tray.

Steps to reproduce:
Open one or more instances of konsole.
Disconnect a second screen (just plug off) and plug-in again. Probably you have to repeat the plug-off and plug-in several times. For me the System Tray crashes at the second try latest. The konsole instances are not listed anymore in the tray.

Hardware:
Lenovo x230 i5-3210M

OS:
Leap 42.1

KDE-repository:
official openSUSE-Leap-42.1

It seems I have encountered the same problem.

When using multiscreen konsole windows seem to dissapear but they are still running. Unfortunately I couldn't find any way to reach those konsole windows.

Distribution: Arch Linux
KDE version: 5.12.1

What do you mean by "System Tray" in your posts?
How do you get Konsole in there?
Comment 3 Maciej Sitarz 2016-01-25 20:26:33 UTC
I think Thomas when writing about "System Tray" meant "Task Manager". At least this is how it behaves in my environment.
Konsole windows are not listed on Task Manager, after some plasma component crashed (after disconnecting external monitor).

Please apologize my bad wording. I'm way too old to learn new names of GUI components every second year ;-)
Following https://userbase.kde.org/Glossary/en#Panel it is the _Panel_ I am referring to.

For those who are interested in workarounds of this issue, here's a summarize of my experience:

* if you have still the second screen available after plasmashell has crashed, just plug-off and on the monitor several times until the segfault screen is shown which asks you to restart the application (plasmashell)
* if you are away from your workplace and have no second screen available but the Panel isn't shown anymore:
** either try to send SIGSEGV to the plasmashell process (kill -11)
** or (you hit the bug where kscreenlocker_greet shows a blank screen, only) send a kill to the kscreenlocker_greet process

Do you have your task manager set up to
"show only tasks from the current screen" ?

Do they appear in the alt+tab dialog?

can you type "xprop" in a terminal and click on one of the windows.

No.

No.

Currently I'm able to execute xprop and focus on open windows. But there's no second screen available at this moment to reproduce the plasmashell crash. On the other hand: My issue tries to demonstrate, that opened konsole windows are not available. Hence I wouldn't be able to give them a focus, I guess.
Comment 8 David Edmundson 2016-01-26 21:37:18 UTC
Are you sure konsole hasn't just quit then?
Comment 9 Thomas Abraham 2016-01-27 01:00:40 UTC
Yes, I am sure it is still running. 'ps auxw|grep konsole' shows activities. When quitting KDE itself I'm asked to close running konsole windows without giving me the chance to view them. Sad but true.
Comment 10 Con Hennessy 2016-01-27 12:35:25 UTC
I see the same issue. Unplug a second screen and konsole is no longer visible in the task panel.
Comment 11 Con Hennessy 2016-01-27 12:50:57 UTC
I've the same issue. Konsole is still running, a "ps" shows me the original konsole with the session flag. I just cannot access it anymore - even plugging in the second screen again will not bring it back to me.

Haven't seen this issue since I've been running plasma 5.7.3. Is anybody else able to confirm that this is resolved with more recent versions?
