Description kdebuac.rhn 2016-01-17 14:49:38 UTC
A network interface that (likely) once existed never permanently leaves the graph even after plasma crashed & restarted.
The interface disappears until the next click of "apply" in the widget properties, when it appears with a glitched reading.

The interface looks like a USB device that I once used for networking and is not listed in the properties.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. ???
2. Restart plasma
3. Change arbitrary property and click "apply"

Actual Results:
Network graph for device "enp0s20u[cutoff]" appears.

Expected Results:
No nonexistent interface appears.

This has nothing to do with the System Load Viewer plasmoid. Are you sure you assigned this to the correct component?
Comment 2 kdebuac.rhn 2016-06-03 16:58:54 UTC
No, I am not sure. It's really difficult to find the right component on the bug tracker. If I misassigned, please assign to the correct component. The Network applet in question is the one that is called Network Monitor, and can be placed on panels. I don't know if the bug is in the widget itself or in the data provider, but judging by the amount of other bugs in the applet that I'm seeing, my guess is that it's the culprit.
Comment 3 Bernhard Übelacker 2017-12-02 10:42:26 UTC
I think I hit the same or similar issue.
I placed the network monitor widget on my panel ages ago.
Using the configuration dialog somehow I ended with a section in
~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc like this:
----
[Containments][2][Applets][18]
immutability=1
plugin=org.kde.plasma.systemmonitor.net

[Containments][2][Applets][18][Configuration][ConfigDialog]
DialogHeight=540
DialogWidth=720

[Containments][2][Applets][18][Configuration][General]
sources=network%2Finterfaces%2Feth0%2Ftransmitter%2Fdata,network%2Finterfaces%2Fenp37s0%2Ftransmitter%2Fdata,network%2Finterfaces%2Fenp6s0%2Ftransmitter%2Fdata
----

Now if the interface is removed e.g. by switching the mainboard started again
the configuration persists and is shown in the applet.
Unfortunately the configuration dialog just shows existing interfaces and
therefore nonexisting cannot be removed.

So it would be nice to add in the config dialog also the interfaces currently
shown in the applet.

A workaround for me was to remove the applet and add it again that it got
put on a new index. But the section
"[Containments][2][Applets][18][Configuration][General]" stays in the file.

Another workaround is probably just to logout and remove the section
"[Configuration][General]" from ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc

Files containing the applet might be these:
  applets/systemmonitor/net/contents/ui/net.qml
  applets/systemmonitor/net/contents/ui/netConfig.qml
So this might be reassigned to
  product "plasmashell",
  component "System Monitor".

Seen on Debian Stretch, plasma-workspace 5.8.6-2.1.

Is this still an issue or relevant with the new System Monitor applet in Plasma 5.19 and beyond?
