Description Simon Andric 2016-01-06 01:13:39 UTC
Hello!

Let me explain what i want to do

1. In system settings under display options unified both my outputs (monitor VGA and TV - HDMI -1920x1080).

2. I chose under "desktop preferences" to use slideshow and the pictures to be "scaled & cropped" and the time interval is set to 7min 10 sec.

3. Then i put some widgets on the desktop (analog clock and folder view).

4. After reboot - my desktop is again a NON slideshow desktop and there is no widgets which i put on the desktop.

And now the funny thing -- ok so i add the "activity switcher" widget to my default panel (next to K menu button). As soon as i click it --- the widgets appear and my desktop is again "slideshowed".

5. The activity has only one activity marked as "default" -- i RENAME that activity to "something" (in my case "fani") and also change the avatar of the activity.

6. In the top left corner of the desktop it now say "fani". I DRAG this "plasma toolbox" to the right upper corner and lock the widgets.

Then i reboot.
Im greeted with the same "empty" non-slideshowed desktop with TWO "plasma toolboxes" -- one which has no name in the left side and my "fani" plasma toolbox in the right corner.

I have to click again on "activity swither" button which is still on my default panel to "change" the empty desktop with my desktop. And i remind: i only have ONE activity. I have to do this EACH time i reboot. In my opinion, there is something wrong -- i mean,...this is not how it was suppose to work,...i think...

ps. i dont know if having two screens and slideshow or even activity is the one which causes this behaviour...but i mentioned it anyway, maybe it helps with diagnosing the problem.

pps. i also have two "virtual desktops" but they are identical - i didnt make then different in any way.

thank you for your help!

Simon :)

Reproducible: Always

I think I’m having the same problem. Originally, I thought it was just a wallpaper problem. When I logged in, I would have one wallpaper. And after a (perhaps long) while, it would change to a different wallpaper. The thing causing the change would typically involve clicking on an (completely wallpaper-unrelated) icon in the system tray (e.g. the Klipper icon). It would always happen only when I clicked on something on the system tray, but also *not* every time I did so. Sometimes I would have to click five times for the change to happen.

So it looked like I had two wallpapers, one activated by default (after logging in), and one activated by doing a random action on the desktop.

I have now added a widget to one of the wallpapers. And when I log in, this is typically *not* shown. But when I do the ‘random action’ thing so that the wallpaper changes, it *is* shown. This is consistent with Simon’s description. The strange thing is that I have only *one* activity defined, so theoretically, there *is* no activities to switch between (unless there is one hidden ‘default’ activity).

I don’t know if this is related, but I also use a multiple-monitor setup, with overlapping screens defined. (But usually only one monitor is physically turned on.)

I’m running the latest openSUSE Tumbleweed, with Plasma 5.5.4 (but have had this problem in many earlier releases too).

Are either of you still experiencing this in Plasma 5.21?
