I have bought a laptop from Asus called N550JK and I get this weird issue with kmix that the PulseAudio daemon seems to think or rather prefer that I use the HDMI port to listen to audio streams even thou the speakers in the laptop works well.

If I right click on the speaker icon and choose Sound Setting the middle tab called Hardware Sound Setup, it's set to use HDMI.

There are 2 options in the dropdown menu that both says Built-In Audio, but the first is for HDMI Audio playback and the other one is for the Analog Audio playback.

If I choose the second Built-In Audio alternative and then set to use Speakers and then press the Apply-button it works fine, but if you reboot the computer the issue comes back.

It is also reproducible if you connect a Headphone in the Headphone jack and then disconnect it.

I've reinstalled Mageia 5 at least 15 times and I'm able to get this problem over and over and over again, even if I choose to only install KDE4 or multiple environments at once.

Version of kmix according to rpm -qa kmix is kmix-4.14.3-1.mga5

However, kmix --version shows other version number:

Qt: 4.8.6
KDE Development Platform: 4.14.5
KMix: 4.5

Sorry but this is not a Kmix bug.

The default device preferences are chosen due to a weighting system, this can then be overridden in the device preferences.

Please ensure that the defaults really have not been altered by doing a fresh boot, logging in via tty, rm -rf your ~/.pulse folder and then reboot. This will ensure that you get a fresh setup on next boot.

If it still has the wrong priority device chosen (use pacmd ls to see each device priority score) by default then open a bug against pulseaudio upstream.

For complete clarity, this is not a kmix bug.
