Ark 15.12 cannot open specific RAR archives that 15.08 can open. I have two files that I'm sure they are not broken (I can open both of them in Ark 15.08 and WinRAR). In the first file Ark 15.12 shows the file names in the brand new comment section but contents of the archive are not displayed. I can extract its contents via Dolphin's right click menu. In the version 15.08, Ark asks for a file type for this file if I select RAR It opens and shows me the contents correctly (The ask option has removed but this is another bug report). I can also extract it using Ark 15.08. As a temporary workaround, please remove the spaces from the archive's filename. If this update does not fix it, please tell me.

Confirming. Ark 15.12 assign higher priority to mimetypes detected by content. However, for some reasons, shared-mime-info detects this archive as PDF. I will report this bug upstream, but in the meantime Ark could fallback to the mimetype detected from the extension, which is going to be RAR as expected.
I forgot to ask you: can you describe exactly how was this RAR archive created? It might also be a fault of the program used to create the archive...
It is a very old archive I don't remember how it was created but probably an old version of WinRAR might be used.

If Ark would have done so, this bug would not have been discovered and the shared-mime-info devs could not have fixed it. For now, I'm marking this as resolved upstream. If you want, you can open a report on bugs.archlinux.org and ask to update the shared-mime-info package with this commit: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xdg/shared-mime-info/commit/?id=10fc17ec61c5b5c6c0e6ea2c8d7a2123271d07e3 Otherwise, you will have to wait for the next shared-mime-info public release.
