Description Kubuntiac 2015-12-16 22:36:44 UTC
Some clips (including the one attached) have the visuals corrupted onscreen when playing back in the clip or project window. Those same clips play fine though in VLC and Melt, and also turn out fine rendered in any project.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open mp4 clip attached to this bug
2. Play in clip monitor

Actual Results:
VIdeo is distorted and garbled in clip monitor (and project monitor if added to timeline), whether proxied or not

Expected Results:
Video plays back ok.

Test video clip

Plays fine in VLC and Melt. Not in Kdenlive clip / project monitor

I'm using Kdenlive from vipons's ppa (compiled 24 hours ago and just updated) package name:
4:15.11.90+67-0ubuntu1~vpinon~wily1

Version in about is:
15.12.0

KDE Frameworks 5.15.0
Qt 5.4.2 (built against 5.4.2)
The xcb windowing system

What happens if you resize the clip/project monitor (in a way that makes the video smaller/bigger)?

If doing that solves it, it might be related to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355255
Comment 4 Kubuntiac 2015-12-16 23:59:26 UTC
The distortion doesn't change at all with rescaling of the monitor.

I can't reproduce the issue. The last time I had problems with videos, it was because of ffmpeg. Try playing back with ffplay (or if you have avconvert: avplay). Which version do you have of it? Can you update? Thanks!

Actually, my Kdenlive crashed, and when I restarted it, this issue seems to have gone away. I think it might have been some leftover from updating today.
Comment 7 Kubuntiac 2015-12-17 01:27:22 UTC
Ah, I was too quick to close this. It seems that the clip sometimes plays distorted in both the clip and project monitors and sometimes it doesn't. Weirdly enough though, what seems to make the difference, is the project settings (yes, even for playback in the clip monitor).

If I create a new project with the standard HD 720P 30fps profile, I can import and play this clip fine.

If I create a new project with the following settings, and import the clip it plays corrupted:
Size: 540x960 (the resolution of the clip)
Frame rate:30/1
Pixel aspect ratio: 1/1
DIsplay aspect ratio: 540/960
Colorspace:ITU-R 709
Progressive

Oh, and it plays just fine in ffplay
Comment 9 Kubuntiac 2015-12-17 01:31:14 UTC
Not sure if it's related, but running in GDB I see a lot of errors like this one:
QXcbConnection: XCB error: 8 (BadMatch), sequence: 1994, resource id: 10486065, major code: 130 (Unknown), minor code: 3

Ok, in fact this is a duplicate of bug #357326
MLT needs a video profile that is a multiple of 8. So adjusting your profile width to 544 will make it work. I will add some safeguard / info to the profile creation dialog
