On a panel with enough height, the Color Picker applet could arrange its two icons vertically instead of horizontally. Then, the icons would not be so big (see screenshot).

The question is when that should happen but I agree just blowing up the icons to an insane size next to each other is a waste of space.

I'd like to add that when the panel is vertical, color picker grows too much (attached a screenshot). Having an option to set the scale in the widget settings would help much with this issue.

Having a checkbox to change between horizontal and vertical layout independently of the orientation of the parent panel would be also useful.
