Description michael 2015-12-11 21:52:35 UTC
Seems very similar to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=260360
The operating system works as before as far as I can tell, with the exception of visibility. I can access any object, complete any action as long as I know where the buttons and windows are from memory, since they are no longer visible and seem hidden behind the background image. Correlating with this is that when shutting down, sometimes the background is taken down first, and I'm presented briefly with a black screen holding all the windows I have opened so far.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start up Virtual Machine
2. Auto login enabled, as soon as I am logged in the issue is apparent.

Actual Results:
A KDE 5 desktop with no visibility apart from the bottom widget, set to draw itself in the space below the background image, instead of on top of it.

Expected Results:
Windows that are visible, toolbars on top of the desktop background.

If I can figure out how, I'll try setting a transparent png as the background image.

Looks bad, not seen this before.

What type of VM are you using?

If you press alt+space do you get krunner on top?

From that if you type "kquitapp5 plasmashell" that reveals all the windows? Do those windows have the normal close buttons and such on top?

Plasmashell force stopped

Yes, that command does show me the proper windows, with menu bar & buttons. I managed to take a screencap before Plasma restarted itself.
