Dead keys for writing áéíóúü does not working by setting "España - asturianu (ast_ES)" locale and "Asturian (Spain, with bottom-dot H and bottom-dot L)" keyboard layout in any KDE application, GTK applications work fine with it. On the other hand, Ḥ, Ḷ and Ñ Asturian letters are typed correctly in KDE and GTK applications. I don't know if this bug is KDE-related or Qt-related or what, neither i don't how to debug it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set system locale to "España - asturianu (ast_ES)" in Regional Settings 2. Set keyboard layout to "Asturian (Spain, with bottom-dot H and bottom-dot L)" in Input devices -> Keyboard -> Layouts 3. Open any KDE app and try to type any accented áéíóú or umlaut ü vowels using the correct key combination Actual Results: áéíóúü are not showed in any KDE app. If you try to write one of them, they are shown as aeiouu Expected Results: áéíóúü must be showed correctly using the correct key combination
After one month, this bug did not receive an reply. Is there some information missing? Currently I am the Asturian coordinator of KDE translations and this bug does not let me to test translations at the same time I translate, and i cannot use KDE into my language as i need to use another locale. Thanks.
If gtk applications work fine then it's not a keyboard layout switcher problem, reassigning.
UPDATE: I could test if this bug is fixed or is distro-specific on other Linux distros but all of them showed the same behavior. However, i did the same test con 3 different PCs an keyboards, and same problem. Any way to debug this?

I can confirm. Czech layout; qwerty, extended Backslash variant. Any Qt based application doesn't handle dead keys. The diacritic dead key seems to be just ignored and it will print out just a basic unaccented letters. GTK based software (like Firefox) works just fine. Honestly, this bug is pretty serious. It completely prevents any sort of formal writing. http://hastebin.com/tusukitido.sm
Ok, I've just tried RKWard, which seems to be based on Qt4, and the dead keys work there. So it has to be a regression in Qt5. http://i.imgur.com/FAUmvyh.png

However, I reported a similar bug to OpenSUSE (as you can see here https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/415114) and it seems to be fixed but i cannot check it because they didn't update the related packages at the moment. This annoying (and maybe critical) bug prevents me to use my PC, and coordinate and update Asturian translations on KDE...
Oops... I posted the wrong link above, here's the correct one: http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=981008
It's still not working with Qt5.7 from archlinux repos. However, it does work in KDE Neon. I have no idea what kde neon does differently, but those dead keys work there: http://i.imgur.com/KNQPdEH.png (I forgot to switch to the Version tab in virtualbox, but it's exactly the same as on my host). Those dead keys work fine on KDE Neon on my virtualbox, but do not work on my host. I wonder if Ubuntu does some additional patching, or if it's some config issue.

There is another thread on Qt bug tracker: https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-49438 In short, the KDE Plasma from archrepos has this issue. Interestingly, KDE Neon doesn't have this issue. Maybe Ubuntu does some downstream patching, but clean packages sourced from kde are affected.

In KaOS, setting the locale to en_US and keyboard to Asturian variant, I can type áÁéÉíÍóÓúÚüÜḶḷḤḥñÑ That's strange.
Try to check if your ibus is configured properly. It solved my issue. Check the Qt bug thread I linked.
Thank you for reporting this issue. This bug report is quite old. Can you still reproduce this issue with KDE 5.24.5?
