I am seeing frequent (but not consistent) crashes when I right-click a file to perform file operations in Dolphin. I work in split-view mode. This behaviour started since upgrading to 15:10. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Right-click a file in Dolphin 2. 3. Actual Results: The Dolphin windows closes - sometimes there will be a delay before the window disappears. Sometimes it crashes before the file operations menu appears, other times not.
Thanks for the bug report. In order to analyze the problem, we need a backtrace of the crash. If you did not see a crash reporter window after the crash, you could try to get one with gdb or Valgrind. See https://community.kde.org/Dolphin/FAQ/Crashes for details. Thanks for your help!
Hi Frank. I don't usually see a crash reporter window though I did get one earlier today. I have tried repeatedly for the past 45 minutes to get Dolphin to crash using "valgrind dolphin 2> log.txt" but it won't! However as soon as I ran Dolphin normally from the menu, not using valgrind, it crashed. I don't know if this is any help at all but Dolphin seems reliable when running slowly (in valgrind). The next time I see the crash reporter I'll submit the report and post a comment here with the date & time
I get this a lot also, with Kubuntu 15.10 Seems to always happen with right-clicking on a .png file saved in the Home directory, and trying "Open With..." (I have Pinta installed, and like to open with Pinta for editing) If I move the png file to the Home/Pictures folder, then the same issue no longer occurs. So- could be a settings issue around file types (to do with auto-preview perhaps) in certain folders?
Hello, I finally have a crash which generated an automatic bug report, it happened at 8:53 (GMT/UTC) this morning. Hopefully you will be able to find the bug report submitted from my system.
This may be related. I was getting crashes when scrolling on a context menu in both dolphin and plasmashell until I turned off the file to activity linking service in dolphin... Configure Dolphin > Services > Uncheck the service named 'File to activity linking plugin'. Plasmashell and dolphin have not crashed when hovering mouse in the context menu since I did that.
Further information which may be of use - the right-click crashes are worse with external drives, for example I'm using a USB drive at the moment (Western Digital Passport formatted NTFS) and 8 times out of 10 it will crash when I right-click a directory. KDE does not generate a crash report for any of these crashes. Also if I run Dolphin using Valgrind the crashes stop 100%, it's almost as if Valgrind fixes the problem by slowing everything down.
I suggest, that your bug is dublicate of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351485
I got the error on my Dad's system (Fedora 23, KF 5.26), and resolved it by disabling the service called "Send via KDE Connect".
Oh, and it shouldn't be a duplicate of the bug mentioned, because that bug occurs in version 5.19 and earlier, and mine is not that version.
I had the same bug on Fedora 23. Dolphin 15.12.3 crashing when right-clicking on files, never on folders or links. Disabling Send via KDE Connect service solved the problem.
@Tim: if you have a crash different than https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351485 please open another report and add the backtrace (see https://community.kde.org/Dolphin/FAQ/Crashes) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 351485 ***
