Description Jason Straight 2015-11-24 04:40:27 UTC
Trying to copy via smb:// in dolphin to windows folders within shares fails with "Access denied. Could not write to." when dragging and dropping.

Copy and paste works. Copying with krusader works. This leads me to believe the problem is not in kio?

Many windows folders have the "read only" attribute set. This does not apply to the folder itself, but to files within. If you remove the read only attribute within windows then open properties for that folder again, you'll see it's still marked as "read only", when in fact it is not.

It is my assumption that dolphin is basing the inability to copy/move to such shared folders on this.

When you drag and drop, you do not get the context menu asking to move/copy, just an instant error.

You can however create a new folder in the same location, then drag and drop into that new folder.

Reproducible: Always

gna... im sorry... i'm new to this... thought i'm able to edit my comment..

wanted to add:
Dolphin 15.12.1
KDE Framework: 5.18.0
Comment 4 Bernd 2016-08-07 12:47:05 UTC
can confirm this with

Version 15.12.3
Unter:
KDE Frameworks 5.18.0
Qt 5.5.1 (kompiliert gegen 5.5.1)
Das xcb Fenstersystem

(on Kubuntu 16.04)

Also it does happen not only to Windows shares but also to shares on Samba servers on other linux boxes:

I can *not* drag&drop a file into the root folder of the share
I *can* copy&paste the same file into the same folder
I *can* create files and folders in the root folder of the share
I *can* drag&drop files into any subfolder of the share.

I also recently observed a very similar (possibly related) behavior with a folder mounted via ftp:// in dolphin but I cannot currently replicate it because I don't have this particular ftp server running anymore.

This should be https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=376344

Please try again with kio-extras >= 17.08

Per Bug 387887, looks like DnD works in principle now since the author of that bug was able to do it and experience a crash rather than a permissions error. Closing this, and let's track the remaining issued in other bugs (such as Bug 387887).
