See screenshots URL. The most obvious issue is with the Details View mode, however, there are issues with the other view modes as well, as the text is colored such that it is assumed to be on a dark background, while the background remains white by default. This happens with all dark themes I've tested (produkt, Papirus Dark, Krita Dark, Krita Blender, and more). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Apply dark theme (Settings > Application Appearance > Colors) 2. Open any Dolphin window Actual Results: Dark theme applied, Dolphin has white background with light-colored text. Details view shows the correct background color only on alternating (even: 0, 2, 4, 6..) rows. Expected Results: Dolphin's background should be dark as intended by the color theme. Similar report here in 2011: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=84848 KDE forum Administrator suggested a bug report be filed. I couldn't find one so I'm filing it myself.
You may need to close and reopen dolphin (all instances?) for the change to fully take effect. You might also check in the Colors tab in the Colors settings page, in Color set: View, what the Normal Background and Alternate Background are set to. They should be similar colors I'm using KDE 4.14.13 and while I observe that dolphin doesn't always update all of the rows immediately when changing the color scheme, after closing and reopening it, all of the rows do update.
Breeze Dark looks fantastic with Dolphin today. The alternating row colors are subtle, not jarring and harsh as in your screenshot. If that's not what you're seeing, you might try upgrading to newer versions or adjusting your theme's color scheme.
