Description pandey.swapnil96 2015-11-04 21:59:25 UTC
On changing the system volume, amarok's volume does not change at all. To change amarok's volume the only way is to either from the circular slider at the top left or from amarok's entry in the volume mixer.
Even changing the slider position of "Built-in Audi Analog Stereo" in the volume mixer doesn't change amarok's volume.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Amarok
2. Play a music file
3. Change the volume from multimedia keyboard buttons.

Actual Results:
Amarok's volume doesn't change at all. Even mute functionality doesn't work.

Expected Results:
The volume should change on pressing the keyboard multimedia buttons.

Which phonon backend do you use? Did you change something in the default sound installation of Kubuntu ( e.g. pulseaudio, phonon and kmix)?
Which exact KDE release do you use?

Closing for lack of feedback. Please feel free to reopen this report if you can provide the requested information.

I can confirm this. Can you reopen it?

It's because sometimes the volume buttons change another channel than amarok plays to (for me Amarok plays on "Built-in Audio Analog Stereo" <- standard/fallback, changing the volume with volume buttons sometimes changes "Simultaneous output to Built-in Audio Analog Stereo"). This sound to be a fail in the linux audio system? (Don't know much about it).

The bug made by amarok is, that sometimes amarok is completely muted or sometimes it is normal and suddenly when track changes the volume is 100%. This also happens often after starting amarok (it starts with 100% even if it was normal before).

Phonon Backend: VLC 0.8.2 (but I think it also happened with GStreamer 4.8.2)
Changes: Mh... I don't think there are important changes causing this problem. I switched the phonon backend, changed volumes using pavucontrol, ...

KDE 5 (plasma5) (e.g. dolphin 15.12.3)

$> amarok --version
Qt: 4.8.7
KDE Development Platform: 4.14.18
Amarok: 2.8.0

Distro: Fedora 23

The volume suddenly going up to 100% is definitely not an Amarok issue, and since Amarok doesn't sound output on itself, you really should report this to Phonon. That is also the reason why I asked to know more details from the OR, which he never gave. Hence this bug stays closed, as I would have only moved it to the respective phonon backend with the given information.

FWIW: the sudden 100% volume surge is a well known bug, reported here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=324975

Also, changing the system volume (with what application, btw?) not affecting Amarok might be a conflict between Qt5 based Plasma5 desktop you run and Amarok being still Qt4

Ok, thanks ;)
