Description Syiad 2015-11-02 16:58:28 UTC
When I press Alt+. to show the hidden files in my home directory, dolphin shows them and then freezes. The window become unresponsive (menu, toolbar, places, main window all dead).

If I minimise and restore the window, it comes back with a grey transparent background but otherwise completely empty.

The real bad thing now is that I cannot use dolphin anymore. If I kill it and start it again, it shows the hidden files in my home directory and is frozen immediately.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start dolphin
2. Press <Alt+.>

Actual Results:
Hidden files are displayed. Dolphin freezes.

Expected Results:
Hidden files are displayed. Dolphin remains usable.

Sorry, should have said that this is a fresh install of Kubuntu 15.10.
Plasma 5.4.2
Qt 5.4.2
dolphin version - can't check because I can't get it to work. It's the one that comes with Kubuntu 15.10.

Thanks for the bug report!

Hidden symlinks in your home folder?

I just saw that kile has created two links:
.lyxpipe.in
.lyxpipe.out
They're pointing to files in my kde subdirectory in /tmp

Renaming the two files by removing the leading dot has made dolphin responsive again. However, to not disturb kile, I have afterwards renamed them back to their initial names.

I still consider this a grave bug, because this workaround to unfreeze dolphin is not straightforward. Dolphin becomes unusable to a user who doesn't get pointed to this behaviour. Even if I now know how to get dolphin back, it is a major issue that I can't switch it to show hidden files, which I consider an important feature.
