Description mat.everitt 2015-11-02 16:10:49 UTC
The spell check will offer to replace abbreviations such as 'etc' that do not have a period with the grammatically correct version ('etc.'). The spell check then doesn't recognise the period as part of the word, so again offers to 'correct' the word.

This would be fine (if annoying) but choosing 'replace all' leads the spell check to recursively append periods, effectively locking the program.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a blank document.
2. Type the word 'etc'
3. Run spell check
4. Select replacement 'etc.' and click 'replace all'.

Actual Results:
Infinite recursion, appending periods with no option to halt the process.

Expected Results:
Single period appended.

'English [United Kingdom]' dictionary.

You can obviously get the same result with 'replace' rather than 'replace all' and so have the option to 'ignore' the second replacement. As such I'm marking this as normal severity rather than crash, despite the program effectively hanging.

Mat I've just checked this in Kate and I can't reproduce, etc isn't identified as an incorrect word. The names of dictionaries have also changed, are you able to please recheck this on a recent version of Kate and confirm if it is still an issue.
