Description Unknown 2015-11-02 12:44:37 UTC
Looking at journalctl -f while using KDE Telepathy I see a new line appears on each key stroke in the chat window. Additional messages are logged when opening a chat window.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run journalctl -f in a console
2. Open a chat window and start typing
3. See what happens in the console

Actual Results:
Every key stroke is logged.

Expected Results:
No key strokes should be logged. Also I don't see why opening a chat window should be.

I will mark this as critical because I see it as a big privacy issue.

I can't see anything. What version?
Comment 2 Unknown 2015-11-02 13:23:03 UTC
Help > About KDE Telephathy Contact List says:

KDE Telepathy Contact List
Version 0.9.0
Using KDE Development Platform 4.14.9

Please let me know how to check if you need any additional info.

That's rather old.
It's not in the newer builds.

Also as for your "bug".
open kdebugdialog and turn off debug for ktp-text-ui
Comment 4 Unknown 2015-11-02 13:29:09 UTC
How do I open this dialog? I have no package called kdedebug dialog. Please explain.

Also why should that be turned off additionally if it is a setting? In other words - why is it on by default?
Comment 5 Unknown 2015-11-02 13:31:34 UTC
Correction: I opened kdebugdialog and I see the "Disable all debug output" checkbox is ON. Shouldn't that mean no debug at all? Then why am I seeing messages in journal?
Comment 6 Unknown 2015-11-02 13:34:44 UTC
If I uncheck the box there isn't ktp-text-ui. And even if I uncheck Telepathy-QT and click Apply - the info still gets in the journal.

Sorry for the fragmented messages. I hope you are getting them.

I have fixed printing incoming messages[1] into debug quite some time ago, but there are still some not overly useful debug lines left.

Please update to 15.08.x and verify it's gone; there won't be any other releases in the 0.9 branch.

How am I to do that? I am using the official openSUSE 13.2 repository and everything is up to date.

You'd have to find that out at your distro's forums/wikis, I do not know about openSuse, sorry.

It's part of KDE Applications 15.08 release.
Comment 10 Unknown 2015-11-02 16:26:08 UTC
Ok. I will try to find.

Just to clarify: Does that mean I should upgrade to Plasma 5 or is 15.08 part of KDE4?
Comment 11 Martin Klapetek 2015-11-02 17:57:45 UTC
You should be able to use 15.08 with Plasma 4, but I believe the level of testing this combination receives is not very much. So upgrade to Plasma 5 is recommended.

Thank you Martin!

Upgraded to Plasma 5.4.2 (openSUSE Leap 42.1) - telepathy doesn't even connect to Google account (Jabber).
