Description Gregor Mi 2015-10-31 23:47:36 UTC
I currently have a primary external monitor and a laptop screen which is disabled because the lid is closed.

When I use the "Display configuration" dialog to arrange the screens in some way, press ok and open the dialog again the screens are in previous setup: primary centered and laptop screen in the top right edge of the dragging area. I assume a bug.

We've fixed this with Plasma 5.8. Could you test this release and confirm it?
Comment 2 Gregor Mi 2016-10-19 20:05:02 UTC
I tested it and it seems to be fixed. Thanks!
Comment 3 Gregor Mi 2016-10-19 21:08:31 UTC
Sorry, false report. The issue is still reproducible here.

Note, that the bug only happens when the display, whose the position setting is not remembered, is NOT enabled (see the checkbox "Display: [ ] Enabled").
Comment 4 Sebastian Kügler 2016-10-19 21:44:38 UTC
I don't understand, do you expect that a disabled output has a position?
Comment 5 Gregor Mi 2016-10-20 10:48:22 UTC
I expect the following: when I set a position of a screen then it should remember its position even if I temporarily disable it. Currently the disabled screen jumps back to some random default position. I would find it more practical if it just remembers its last user-set position.
Comment 6 Sebastian Kügler 2016-11-10 12:29:38 UTC
I understand. This will require more involved changes in libkscreen. It's not impossible, but also not incredibly high on my list of priorities. If anyone wants to have a go at it, I can provide guidance, of course.
Comment 7 Chris 2017-01-27 23:03:35 UTC
The reason I disable my second monitor when I don't need it is because when I do have the second enabled, tearing comes back in many applications. When Nvidia finally has some GBM alternative that they like and Wayland becomes usable, this probably won't be an issue anymore, but for now (and probably for quite a while yet) the ability to automatically restore the previous layout when enabling a monitor would be incredibly helpful.

This wishlist item is the same issue: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=324393
Comment 8 Nate Graham 2022-11-10 21:48:46 UTC
Thank you for the bug report. Unfortunately we were not able to get to it yet. Can we ask you to please check if this is still an issue with Plasma 5.25 or 5.26?

If it is, please change the status to CONFIRMED when replying, and paste the output of `kscreen-doctor -o` when it's working properly, and then right after you make the bug happen. If not, or if you can't because you no longer use this setup, you can change the status to RESOLVED WORKSFORME. Thanks a lot!
