Description boblovgren55 2015-10-28 09:31:38 UTC
plasmashell completely freezes up for about 5-10 seconds a few times every hour, and actions like opening files or folders on the desktop, clicking on the task manager, or clicking on the Application Menu are queued until the instructions are processed. Once things "catch up", the notification center frequently will pop up with up to 17 animations of the little ball ping-ponging back and forth, and I will have to manually click "stop" 17 times to get them to all go away.

While these freezes occur I can still perform actions in a KDE application such as Amarok, like fast forward a rewind an audio file. This is on a 4-core i5 with 8 GB of memory, and little else running on the machine so the bottleneck isn't my hardware and this did not used to happen with KDE Plasma 4 on this same machine.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click on something on the desktop or attempt to perform an action on the panel
2. Instructions become queued and nothing you click on responds

Actual Results:
After ~5-10 seconds everything you clicked on opens and Notification Center may also open with an undefined amount of ping-ponging animations which the user has to manually press stop on each one.

Expected Results:
No freeze ups should occur, notifications center should not open up after freeze ups where the user is forced to press stop 17+ times to get it to stop going crazy.

I need more info to do anything with this.

Whilst it is frozen from a terminal can you run the following:

sudo gdb `pidof plasmashell`
then when that finishes loading type "bt" and copy and paste that in there.

then type "quit" to resume plasmashell running

In addition to the above, please also type "thread apply all bt" after "bt" and post both outputs.
