Although there is no such a long text to show up horizontal scrollbar - kate allows to scroll horizontally. It can be done with touchpad with horizontal scrolling enabled. My use case: I have touchpad setting with two finger vertical and horizontal scrolling. When I scroll down a document in kate/kwrite I am not quite precise so I also scroll a little bit aside so the left part of document start to be behind the left edge of the editor and I have to scroll it back to the right. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set up your touchpad to allow scrolling horizontally 2. Open a new document in kate or kwrite and type "something" 3. Scroll left Actual Results: "something" scrolled to the left behind the left edge of the editor. Expected Results: There should be no way to scroll horizontally unless there is a text too long to fit the width of the editors viewport. I have: Plasma 5.4.2 KF 5.15 KDE Applications 15.08.2
Confirmed. Kate always allows horizontal scrolling by exactly one character width even when the document is completely empty, or contains just one character. Turn on horizontal scrolling, create a new document, type one character, scroll horizontally, watch the character disappear behind the left side of the screen.
I cannot reproduce this issue anymore. Using Arch Linux: Plasma 5.8.1 KF 5.27 KDE Applications 16.08.2 Qt 5.7.0
