1. Log in as user1. Use Alt-F2 to start dolphin. It works. 
2. From menu: Leave -> Switch user. Log in as user2. Use Alt-F2 to start dolphin. It works. 
3. Use Ctrl+Alt+F7 to switch back to user1. Try to use Alt-F2 to start dolphin. Autocomplete doesn't work and after typing dolphin<Enter> nothing happens. 

Krunner stdout after switching back: 
session switching to "dol"
session switching to "dolp"
session switching to "dolph"
session switching to "dolphi"
session switching to "dolphin"

Restarting krunner with killall krunner && krunner makes it work again. 

Env: gentoo, plasma-workspace-5.4.2, krunner-5.15.0, sddm 0.12.0 + consolekit.
Let me know if you need more info or want me to try any patches.

Right, I see exactly the same problem. You found out the reason why I often cannot use krunner :)

This is Fedora 22 running plasma-5.4.1 btw. Not distribution specific.

Looks like this is fixed in plasma 5.5. Setting status to fixed :)
