Description arne anka 2015-10-07 20:17:05 UTC
sometimes, fonts are distorted, that is letters are just black squares of varying sizes.
if it happens to be in a ui that can be forced to re-render (like klipper or calendar widget), it helps to close/reopen.
sometimes it even is sufficient to move the mouse over then distorted text.

see attached screen shots for an example (ui1.png: folder view widget configuration) and the fonts used (ui2.png).

Reproducible: Sometimes

I don't think this is a duplicate of #364766 -- in my case it has nothing to do with suspend/resume nor does it affect anything but letters.
Since a while now least it does restore itself reliably after a while (moving the mouse in and out of the affected area) and does not persist until a reboot/plasma restart anymore.
Comment 6 arne anka 2021-12-22 17:24:13 UTC
Nor is it to do with the Nvida driver. While this is an optimus device, Nvidia is disabled and I use Intel exclusively.
Comment 7 Nate Graham 2021-12-23 16:30:23 UTC
Either way, this is an upstream issue related to the graphics drivers. If it's not Bug 364766, it's a something similar.

What Qt version are you using? That bug was supposed to have been fixed in Qt 5.13.

What exactly is that ping pong "plasmashell -> kwin -> plasmashell" supposed to achieve?
Comment 12 Nate Graham 2023-04-27 20:50:56 UTC
This is an issue problem is in the proprietary NVIDIA drivers.

Please report this issue to the NVIDIA folks, either by sending an email to linux-bugs@nvidia.com or making a post at https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/c/gpu-graphics/linux. It would be helpful to the NVIDIA developers if you could run nvidia-bug-report.sh and attach the resulting file in your report. Thanks!
